The widespread disruption to air traffic due to the ash cloud associated with a major volcanic eruption in Iceland delayed Nigel Mountney’s and Ian Kane’s return from AAPG in New Orleans. The pair made the most of the disruption by undertaking fieldwork in southeast Utah as part of an ongoing FRG project to investigate the role of salt wall growth as a control on the style of fluvial sedimentation in the Triassic Moenkopi Formation, an outcrop analogue for parts of the Triassic of the Central North Sea.
